Tuesday 5th July, 6.30pm - Looking at Commemorative Public Art on Thorney Island, a talk via Zoom   Including some of the accomplished people as well as some of the fascinating characters from the area who are missing, we will explore statues as public art: Who we choose to commemorate and why and in the context of recent activism and argument on this thorny topic, Melissa and Montaz will address the merits and pitfalls of the removal and protection of statues. Montaz Marché is a writer, documentary producer and PhD researcher at the University of Birmingham where her historical interest is focused on modern black British History. Melissa Jo Smith is the founding Director of Illuminated Arts, producing creative arts and heritage projects to inspire and transform groups and communities.


Tuesday 19th July, 12.30pm - Mudlarking on the Thames Foreshore,  Guided walk by Claire Harris, Senior Community Archaeologist of The Thames Discovery Programme hosted by MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology).  This guided walk, on the foreshore below Victoria Tower Gardens at low tide, will explore the prehistory and history of the area, introducing the story of changing landscapes - How the foreshore preserves traces of medieval London and the actions of the Luftwaffe ! Focusing on the history and heritage of the river including those structures and features exposed by the movement of sediment in this dynamic environment.

Tuesday 4th October, 3pm -
Visit to RUSI (Royal United Services Institute) Library, SOLD OUT (waiting list) 61 Whitehall, SW1A 2ET)   Founded in 1831 by the Duke of Wellington, RUSI has throughout its almost 190 years remained faithful to its heritage and founding principles to generate rational and free-thinking debate on issues of security and defence. Their historic headquarters are steeped in history, being the old Whitehall Palace. Our tour will include the RUSI Library of Military History, a unique collection of historical and cultural importance. Refreshments available (postponed from 2020).


Tuesday 1st November, 12.30pm - Westminster/Kingsway College, Vincent Square, SW1P 2PD - Lunch in The Vincent Rooms Restaurant and tour of catering college   Following the success and oversubscription to the lunch in May, we have pleasure again in supporting the students studying on the Professional Chefs Diploma and enjoy a 2 course lunch (wine extra) prepared and served by them in their brasserie restaurant. We will have the opportunity to learn about the college, its courses and see behind the scenes in the kitchens and preparation areas.

Tuesday 8th November, 6.30pm - The Society's 36th AGM and talk by Ptolemy Dean on the works on the Sacristy at the Abbey.

Monday 5th December, 6.30pm - The Society's Christmas Party - Details to be confirmed
