Victoria Tower Gardens

6 September 2026

We are pleased to share the latest update regarding our ongoing focus on Victoria Tower Gardens.

Recently the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government published updated planning documents, including a revised Environmental Statement for the proposed Memorial and Learning Centre. We are delighted to announce that the Thorney Island Society has officially submitted a robust response to this document, actively championing the preservation of our local heritage and the protection of our vital civic green space.

Crucially, to guarantee the most transparent decision-making process possible, we have formally requested that the government reopen the public inquiry. We firmly believe that an open inquiry is the absolute best way to ensure that complex environmental data, technical details and flood risk modelling are rigorously and publicly scrutinised.

This proactive step ensures that the voices of local stakeholders will be heard clearly and fairly.

We are also looking forward to responding to the wider planning application in due course, once the formal deadline for the broader redetermination is officially proposed.

Your support remains the foundation of our charity. We strongly encourage all our members to stay engaged and make their views heard as the consultation process unfolds.

Together, we want to ensure that Victoria Tower Gardens remains a peaceful and accessible green sanctuary for everyone in Westminster.
